Cybercrime Prevention and Reporting for the Limited English Proficiency Population
Welcome to the Cybercrime Prevention and Reporting for the Limited English Proficiency Population or CPR4LEPP. This project was started because in the U.S., information and resources about cybersecurity and Internet safety in languages other than English either do not exist or are very limited. This fact potentially increases the risk of Internet users who do not speak English falling victim to cyber scams and attacks. Therefore, the main goal of the CPR4LEPP project is to help and empower the limited English proficiency (LEP) population navigate the online world, ensuring their safety remains a top priority.
This project is led by Dr. Fawn Ngo, Associate Professor of Criminology at the University of South Florida, and a team of dedicated academics and researchers committed to comprehending and removing the digital obstacles faced by the LEP communities. Within this platform, you will have access to essential information for immediate cybercrime protection. We will also provide step-by-step instructional videos on how to perform various tasks (for example, how to set your Facebook account private). We will be uploading new information on a regular basis so be sure to bookmark and visit the CPR4LEPP website often. Beyond the CPR4LEPP website, we have established a Facebook page and will use social media to keep you informed of the latest news and trends in cybercrime and cyber deviance.
Currently, a mechanism for Internet users with limited English proficiency to report their victimization to the FBI does not exist because the reporting form posted at the Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov) is only available in English. To address this barrier, the CPR4LEPP website also includes a link for Internet users who don’t speak English well to report cybercrime incidents in their native languages. It is important to note that CPR4LEPP is not affiliated with law enforcement or immigration agencies and the information that you share with us is strictly anonymous.
As you use the website we want to hear from you about your experience. We are also interested in any suggestions that you may have to help us improve the project. So, please leave us a comment in the Comment section, if you feel comfortable doing so.
On behalf of the CPR4LEPP team, thank for visiting our website and we look forward to working with you in fostering a more secure and resilient digital society, benefitting all Internet users!
